Helping Clients Plan & Manage Their Estates for 30 Years
Serving for the military entitles you to a VA pension. These pensions help retired military servicepeople get coverage for their future health care and other expenses. However, if you have already tried to apply, you know how difficult the process can be. At Aspen Legacy Planning, our South Dakota estate planning lawyers can help explain all of your options, such as Veterans Pensions and Survivors Pensions. Call today to learn more about how to proceed.
What Benefits Are Included?
The different available pensions are designed specifically for either a veteran or their widowed spouse. With the help of an experienced attorney, you can learn more about how to make the best use of your VA pension.
The types of pensions available include:
- Veterans’ pension: These benefits are only available for veterans and their families. The veterans pension is a tax-free benefits package reserved for veterans who were active in the military for at least 90 days, with at least one of those days occurring during a war. For veterans who were active after September 1980, it is only available if they served two years with at least one day during a period of war.
- Survivors’ pension: This pension is for spouses of deceased veterans who have not remarried, children of deceased veterans who are under the age of 18 or became disabled before 18. The deceased veteran must not have been dishonorably discharged.
With the help of a capable legal professional in elder law, you can rest assured knowing you made the smartest move in terms of protecting your estate.
